Krug and Website Analysis’

RESPONSE

Alfred Sung

Conventions
Alfred Sung is a Toronto Canada designer, who works on designing luxurious simple, yet buildable clothing. Conventions are being seen when you first go onto the website. You can see their products on the home page, as well as links to the rest of their products. I think this site is doing a good job with having all their product menus on the top as well as by having the sign in and cart function up there as well.

Visual Hierarchies
For this website it is important to know where you’re clicking. Especially because each headers options , once opened, has many categories inside. The headers, however, are clearly visible. I fell as though the sections font should be larger to catch the eye more, but that may just be the look the web designer was going for.

Make Clickable Obvious
If clickable things were not obvious then they should be adjusted to make them obvious. This is helpful for people who have no knowledge on how websites work. I will come into the defense that this website does not have noticeable links. The website appears like it should be for the age group of 25-40+. Thus, most people this age should understand that links could be anything. In my opinion, websites should have an underline and a change in font type to address that it is a link. That it is something that will catch your eye.

Format Text for Scanning
After messing around with this website for a bit, I find it really easy to navigate. I think they’re doing good when they say they want a modern sleek feeling. I jut think that some fonts could be larger, and some should be underlined.

Some things that I think should be added to better my experience on here would have been that they added some underlined, or even bolding the font when it comes to the headers. I also think that the way that the headers are aligned should match with how I scroll down the homepage, that way it gives that feeling of completeness. I also get the feeling that, from most of their products, that they have more of a feminine display. Maybe adjusting this so that they are available as uni sexed rather than having a specific set of two genders to choose from.

DISCUSSION

@mikaelal
I actually really enjoyed this website. It was easy to navigate and I thought it was very simple yet elegant. I appreciated how the photos and text moved when I scrolled down and my first thought of this website was that it was clearly a professional business. The white background color made it easy to read and my eyes were instantly drawn to the images and the test within them.

I also thought this website was well designed. It reminded me of other clothing brand websites, so their adherence to known conventions is good. I agree that one thing they should consider is continuity from page to page. It seemed like one page would be aligned in the center and another page was aligned on the right. Other than that it seemed like a cohesive website.

OTHER/REPLY

@mikaelal

Yeah! I really like how it is a white background too! it adds to the minimalist feeling they are trying to put off. I actually ended up changing my ePotfolio’s theme to add a movable image to my front page. I guess those scroll able images really got to me

@savannahv

I can also see where you are coming from! It really does give that, designer feel of a website. I find it user friendly for what it is. I also think they can definitely make it more cohesive. Like I said in my post I think it is for people 25-40+. Perhaps with the times changing technologically, they could change their work too!
